NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

The post will be based at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The main purpose of the post is to provide a robust consultant body to maintain cover for PCCU and support Embrace, the regional paediatric critical care transport service.

Due to the nature of duties undertaken the post holder will be expected to join colleagues in working flexibly within the rota

A full day on ICU is 2.5 PAs whilst a day covering HDU is 2.25 PAs (to allow for flexibility daytime activity is averaged over a number of weeks).

To achieve a 10 PA job plan, the above allocation of PAs has been assigned.

The person appointed will take an equal share in providing on-call consultant cover for PCCU and will be required to provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence.  He/she/they will have continuing responsibility for the patients in their care and for the proper functioning of the Critical Care Unit.

If the person appointed elects to hold a part-time contract, the duties specified above will substantially require the whole of the appointee’s professional time and will involve a minimum work commitment equivalent to 7 PAs per week.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the training of individuals in the following training programmes, paediatrics, adult intensive care, and advanced nurse practitioners.

We have three overarching aims that set the direction for the Trust in our vision “to create a healthier future for children and young people.”

  • Outstanding patient care
  • Brilliant place to work
  • Leader in children’s health

Our commitment to rewarding colleagues is demonstrated through our brilliant reward and benefits offer including; generous annual leave entitlement and pension scheme and access to salary sacrifice schemes such as cycle to work and lease cars.

We are committed to supporting colleagues from different heritages and lifestyles while at work. This is supported through the offer we have in place for flexible working and the three equality network groups we have in place.
