Validation Team Leader

NHS AfC: Band 4

Job overview

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a proactive and detail-focussed Validation Team Leader to join its Performance
Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to help coordinate and oversee the validation programme of work to ensure a high standard of data quality and ultimately help ensure patients are seen and treated in a timely manner.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve being a subject matter expert in the national
RTT rules (as well as other performance targets), and ensuring they are being followed through the day to day line management of our team of validators.

It also involves working closely with  clinical specialties and operational teams within the Trust, understanding the different admin processes that take place on a patient’s pathway and escalating issues that are identified through validation.

Working for our organisation

Sheffield Children’s is one of three independent, specialist paediatric hospitals in the country, providing dedicated healthcare for children and young people across community, mental health and acute specialist settings.

We have three overarching aims that set the direction for the Trust in our vision “to create a healthier future for children and young people.”

  • Outstanding patient care
  • Brilliant place to work
  • Leader in children’s health

Our commitment to rewarding colleagues is demonstrated through our brilliant reward and benefits offer including; generous annual leave entitlement and pension scheme and access to salary sacrifice schemes such as cycle to work and lease cars.

We are committed to supporting colleagues from different heritages and lifestyles while at work. This is supported through the offer we have in place for flexible working and the three equality network groups we have in place. Colleagues are encouraged to join these groups and request flexible working.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will oversee the comprehensive validation of inpatient and outpatient pathways in  accordance with Referral To Treatment (RTT) guidelines, and other local and national performance standards. The post holder will train staff, both within the Performance Team and the wider Trust, to work in line with these guidelines and monitor our adherence to them. They will also monitor overall performance, identifying and escalating issues to Care Groups where there is a need for improvement.

  • To monitor and support the delivery of performance targets, escalating areas of concern to the Care Groups where necessary. This may include elective access standards and diagnostic pathway standards, among others.
  • To proactively provide performance information and robust intelligence to Care Group Management Teams to aid the delivery and achievement of internal and external targets.  This includes feedback of themes and issues which have been identified through validation.
  • To have oversight of long-waiting patients, working with Care Groups to ensure treatment plans are in place for each of them.
  •  To assist in the development of RTT training within the organisation across various staff groups such as administrative teams and clinicians.  Deliver and provide expert RTT advice to small groups and individuals.
  • To attend relevant meetings and represent the Planning and Performance team as required, and ensure that all relevant information arising from such meetings is accurately communicated.
  • To develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and other staff groups within the Trust and external organisations, ensuring that a professional, efficient and courteous service is provided.
  • To contribute to the analysis of existing business intelligence reports and support the creation of new reports when needed.

Coordination of Validation

  • To support the organisation and flow of work within the Performance Team to ensure that the validation of patient pathways is undertaken in line with team and Trust priorities.
  • To ensure all team members take a consistent approach to pathway validation, and that validation is completed to a high standard in accordance to national guidelines
  • To proactively look at ways in which the validation procedures and processes can be improved and made more efficient.
  • To undertake validation of patient pathways to support the RTT Validators when required

  • Assist with recruitment within the department as and when required.
  • To maintain a record of sickness and other types of leave for the Performance Team.
  • To assist with office cover during periods of annual leave / absence.

Inclusive Recruitment & Selection

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and accurate data capture is an important part of that to ensure we are supportive and representative. Our aim is to ensure that all applicants can see themselves in the available categories on our application form, but we recognise that some of our data capture fields are not inclusive. We have flagged this with our system provider to ask for change.

We offer encouragement and active support to applicants with additional needs, including those from ethnic minorities, with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ+ community. If you wish to adjust any aspect of the recruitment process or wish to find out more about our recruitment & selection processes, please get in touch with our Recruitment Manager: [email protected]
