Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the 0-19 Service at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust as a 0-19 Community Nursery Nurse.

The postholder will be a compassionate, accountable individual who treats all colleagues, patients and service users with respect and seeks to deliver excellence in their role. They will share the Trust values and be committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. 

The postholder will be a key member of the 0-19 Service, who provides Community Public Health delivery through the Healthy Child Programme, The post is within the Fantastic 0-19 Service, who effectively deliver Health Promotion and Support the delivery of the 0-19 Service Specification to ensure that the children and young people in Sheffield reach their full potential safely.

The 0-19 Community Nursery Nurse will be an excellent communicator, and have good interpersonal skills, have experience of working with children, and families, and able to function well as part of a Team, and wider Partners.

Main duties of the job

The 0-19 Community Nursery Nurse will be responsible for:

·      Providing a comprehensive service to children and families 0-19 years. supervised by a member of the HCP Team 

·   Supporting the 0-19 team in the delivery of the 0-19 Service Specification.

·       Contributing to activities directed towards promoting the health of the local population.

Delivering interventions as agreed with the 0-19 team to support children and families. This may be done in a variety of settings, including the child health clinic, children’s centres, school, outreach centres and the clients’ home.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To deliver elements of the 0-19 Service specification under the supervision of the 0-19 Team, using evidence based tools and implementing intervention programmes/packages of care with children and families which have been planned by the Health Visitors/School Nurses following an assessment of need. 

To follow the agreed plan set by the Health Visitor/School Nurse in agreement with the parent/carer for interventions and support to children and families where there are identified additional needs, vulnerabilities and or/safeguarding issues.

 

To work in partnership with the local community Early Years (Best Start), Children’s Centres, Multi Agency Support Team (MAST) and other agencies/partners in order to assess, identify and meet the public health needs of the children and families within the community.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • In order to fulfil the duties of the post candidates should have attained a level of experience proportionate to the competencies detailed in the Job description & person specification, which would normally entail at least 2 years’ post qualification experience.
  • Previous experience in child care setting.
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Experience of co-ordinating and prioritising own workload
  • Experience of facilitating groups.
  • Previous work with families and knowledge of basic parenting issues.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within the community.
  • Experience of working in areas of social and economic disadvantage.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Knowledge of normal child development and factors which have impact
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to provide a wide range of nursery nurse activities.
  • Able to demonstrate evidence of recent updating (within the last year).
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of equal opportunities. Knowledge of health and safety issues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work alone with clients within an agreed package of care.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to identify when to liaise with the 0-19 Team.
  • Ability to build appropriate relationships with clients and their families.

  • Ability to maintain accurate and clear records.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the public health issues.
  • Demonstrate awareness of current professional issues and current health legislation.
  • Knowledge of changing health care environment in relation to services, i.e. local 0-19 service specification.

  • Some knowledge and an understanding of child protection issues.
  • Experience of working with children with special needs/disabilities.
  • Some Knowledge of child protection policies and procedures.
  • Ability to run health promotion group sessions.
  • Ability to write and/or speak other language/languages in addition to English.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 Childcare qualification or equivalent plus additional training and or experience to diploma level.
Desirable criteria
  • Level 4 Cert in Early Years OR Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) Level 4 OR BTEC Professional Diploma in Specialised Play for Sick Children and Young People - Level 4. OR Diploma in Childcare & Education (DCE) OR Parenting Training or equivalent experience.
