9 month secondment/fixed term contract to June 2025
This an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to work with an award winning Community Rehabilitation Team (CERT). Applicants preferably have prior experience as an Assistant Psychologist working with adults with complex mental health difficulties, and are interested in the opportunity to gain experience in the community, and in strengths-based, person-centered rehabilitation work.
The team has a well embedded psychological culture and works with trauma informed principles at the centre of the care. This job provides the opportunity for an Assistant to have a pivotal role in the MDT, supporting the team to use psychological formulations and interventions in their approach.
The role also involves providing psychological care to services users under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist. This involves providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions, and supporting service users to attend groups, non-statutory services and connect with their communities.
The service is passionate about quality improvement and has dedicated weekly time for teaching, training and service improvement projects. There is opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to be involved in projects, co-produced with our service users and staff.

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of services users at the Community Enhancing Rehabilitation Team (CERT), providing psychological assessment and recovery focused psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
To show a positive and respectful attitude towards people with complex mental health problems, their families and carers, and staff at all times.
To maintain highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with Clinical Psychologist and manager(s).
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice and Trust policies and procedures.
To undertake specific administrative duties as required.
To prepare test materials, handouts, flyers and visual or teaching aids as required.
We are a city-wide service, so travel is an essential part of the role.
To support in the delivery of teaching and training to the team, under the supervision of the Clinical Psychologist and within competencies.
Offer supervision and support to staff as appropriate, under supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
To perform other duties of a similar kind appropriate to the grade, which may be required from time to time by their Psychology Manager and agreed to by the Professional Lead Clinical Psychologist.

Clinical:
To be required to work on a frequent basis with service users who present with severe and complex mental health problems including those diagnosed with personality disorder and dual diagnosis with psychosis.
To participate in psychological assessments of clients, including administering, analysing, and writing reports based on self-report measures, direct and indirect observations and discussions with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care under the management of the Clinical Psychologist.
To assist in the development of psychological formulations and team formulations.
To support with the facilitation of formulation meetings under the management of the Clinical Psychologist.
To assist in the development and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems.
To work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
To work with other colleagues in the team to assess service users and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews, including review of previous assessments, interventions and case notes, analysis of numerical data from questionnaires, interviews, or activity/behaviour monitoring.
To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary and care plan meetings.
To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all service users in the team.
To work with Families and Carers.
To work into other teams, e.g. inpatient settings, to support the journey of our service users through services
Teaching, training and supervision:
To receive regular management and clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines (See BPS/ACP/Unite guidance on the Employment of Assistant Psychologists).
Supervision will be weekly with access to the qualified Psychologist at other times. The Assistant Psychologist will be expected to develop autonomy and the ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
To show the ability to develop resilience, the ability to manage stress and work under pressure.
To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care and emotional well-being including providing supervision to other staff members.
Management, recruitment and service development:
To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects, including recovery care planning, activity, and effectiveness of the team or by researching evidence of best practice.
To attend and contribute to meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.
Contribute data analysis and reporting into meetings within the team and more widely.

- Eligible for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (GBC) or equivalent for non-UK applicants
- Has a second class honors degree or higher in Psychology
