Trainee foundation pharmacists may apply. 

We are seeking an enthusiastic Pharmacist with an interest in mental health to join our team. Our pharmacists provide clinical services across a range of teams, including inpatient wards and community teams to provide safe, patient centered care. 

Our pharmacists are vital members of the multidisciplinary team and you will be an active member in meetings for your team, providing clinical support, developing individualised care plans, medicines reconciliation and patient counselling services.

You will also develop your skills through the department’s activities including medicines information, dispensary services and providing teaching for professionals and patients. As a team we are committed to developing our staff and service and have a history of internal promotion.

We are located in the city of Sheffield, with a wide range social and recreational activities including bars, restaurants, theatres and two football stadiums. We are on the edge of the Peak District providing stunning scenery and a host of outdoor pursuits.

This role is open to qualified pharmacists and trainees sitting the autumn exam. The possibility of part-time working can be discussed at interview.

  • Working under the supervision of senior pharmacists, use clinical skills and expertise in the management of medicines in mental health in accordance with best practice.
  • To prevent and reduce medicines related harm.
  • Participation in systems of clinical supervision and peer support within the pharmacy service.
  • To work flexibly and travel to various locations across the city.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

The following represent a broad outline of tasks the post holder will be expected to undertake. These are not intended as a fixed list of duties. Under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist or Senior Pharmacists, the post holder will be allocated duties appropriate to their role to support the work of the department.

  1. Working predominantly within designated multidisciplinary teams, provide a clinical pharmacy service to wards, units or teams in order to ensure pharmacological treatment provides best outcomes for service users and is in line with nationally agreed standards for best practice.
  2. Support the delivery of clinical pharmacy services to other areas of the Trust.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships within designated multidisciplinary teams.
  4. Assist and, where appropriate, take a lead in supporting designated multidisciplinary teams to develop safe and effective medicines related practice.
  5. Provide advice to service users and, where relevant, carers on the best use of their medicines. Work with individual service users, carers or groups or to help achieve best outcomes from pharmacological treatments.
  6. Advise medical, nursing and other staff of medicine related problems.
  7. Participate in the departmental drug information systems and answer queries resulting from medicine use in the Trust.
  8. Under supervision, perform specialist mental health medication reviews, reviewing and advising on the management of service users receiving complex pharmacological treatments or not responding to existing treatments. Where appropriate, collaborate with other health care providers to ensure that physical health considerations are encompassed.
  9. Responsibility for clinical and other checks within the dispensary, and to act as Responsible Pharmacist.
  10. Responsibility to act as a pharmacist for the purposes of the 2012 Human Medicines Regulations and other statutory instruments.
  11. Participate in the systems and processes which will ensure compliance with the requirements laid down by the CQC or other regulatory bodies.
  12. Participate in department systems to implement any MHRA or other medicines alerts.
  13. Participate in data collection / audits and clinical trials.
  14. Participate in training sessions on medicines for other professional groups.
  15. Undertake mandatory and other training as required by the Trust.
  16. When appropriate, supervise junior pharmacy staff, technicians and students.
  17. Participation in bank holiday, early and late rota in accordance with local procedure. There is a possibility of future weekend rotas.

Service development:

  1. Support developments in services under the direction of the senior pharmacy team.
  2. Assist in developing and implementing new processes and procedures.
  3. Under supervision, implement policies and propose changes to practices and procedures.
  4. Assist in delivering and adapting training materials.
