We are looking for a dynamic clinical pharmacist with extensive NHS post-registration experience, to help us deliver fantastic advanced-level pharmacy care to our Emergency Department (ED) and admission units based at the Northern General Hospital.

Our friendly, dynamic team of clinical pharmacists, technicians and assistants provide a clinical service to the Emergency Department,  Acute Medical Unit, Frailty unit and Surgical Assessment Unit.

This post is split across ED and PADT, allowing a unique opportunity to further develop skills in emergency care and medical and surgical admissions. 

You will be responsible for the clinical service delivery on a day to day basis, whilst supporting foundation and senior pharmacist in the team. We play a valued and active role in the Post Take Ward Round. As well as significant post-registration experience, you’ll also need a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy alongside excellent clinical leadership, interpersonal and communications skills. Ideally, you’ll also have Independent Prescriber status or be willing to undertake the course.

The role also comes with plenty of opportunities for you to develop and grow into a fantastic ED and admissions pharmacist. Opportunities include in-house training, mentoring and leadership development. You may also be involved in service improvement across the directorate.

Delivering, developing and evaluating clinical pharmacy services to admission areas across STH in accordance with the objectives set by the Principal Pharmacist in order to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of drugs.

Attend and actively contributing to the Post Take Ward Round on a rota basis.

Attend ED governance meetings and huddles.

Produce and implement guidelines, protocols, PGDs and SOPs.

Participate in the education and training of trainee pharmacists, other pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals.

Perform independent pharmacist prescriber role (when completed relevant training).

Support pharmacy service areas in the department, this may include dispensaries, technical and medicines information.

Contributing to clinical pharmacy services, including evenings and weekends.

  • Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • MPharm degree in pharmacy.
  • Higher degree/ Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent postgraduate diploma in specialist area
