The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership fully integrates the pathology services delivered on behalf of the Partner Trusts within the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint; Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist or Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Specialised Clinical Chemistry & Toxicology department at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.  This ISO 15189 accredited department provides an analytical toxicology service to hospital physicians, pathologists and Coroners across England and Wales, as well as a toxic metal/trace element and therapeutic drug monitoring service throughout the SYB partnership and other NHS trusts.  The successful candidate will be working with state of art equipment including high-resolution mass spectrometers (HRMS), LCMS, GCMS, ICP-MS  and much more.

Applicants must be suitably qualified and hold current registration with the HCPC.

Main duties of the job

• To carry out complex analytical and processing procedures.
• To be responsible for the production of accurate and timely Laboratory testing.
• To maintain high scientific and technical standards.
• Promote and maintain a high standard of relevant education and training.
• Adhere to all Trust, SYBP and Departmental Policies.
• To stimulate and take part in scientific and technical developments. 

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6.
