Job overview
The appointment is for a fixed term period of 12 months. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required. If the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK, sponsorship will be required.
Applicants should be IMT3 level or above.
Main duties of the job
Please refer to the supporting job description and person specification which will outline the duties of the role including an indicative job plan.
The post holder will gain comprehensive experience in conducting high-quality service redesign and quality improvement in the aortic stenosis pathway. Experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with Aortic Stenosis. It is expected that the output from this will lead to publication and presentations at national conferences.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered with the GMC with a license to practise
- MBChB or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
Clinical governance and audit
Essential criteria
- Committed to and understands the principles of clinical governance
- Understands the principles outlined in the GMC document Good Medical Practice
- Understands the requirements of Medical Appraisal and Revalidation
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on range of acute medical conditions
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- IMT3 level or above
Desirable criteria
- ST level training in cardiology
- Core Cardiology training completed
- Experience in interventional Cardiology/Imaging
- BSE accreditation in Echocardiography
Research
Essential criteria
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
- Basic understanding of research methods and statistics.
Desirable criteria
- Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
Teaching and training
Desirable criteria
- To have the ability and willingness to teach medical students and junior doctors
Continuous Professional Development
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal attributes
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix)
- Good written communication skills
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013)
