South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology (SYBP) is on a transformational journey that will fully integrate our existing pathology services, providing the best possible service for patients and clinicians across the Integrated Care System.  It is our mission to deliver high-quality and innovative laboratory medicine solutions to patients, clinicians and partners to improve health, add value to patient care, safeguard best clinical outcomes and support the transformation of healthcare across SYB and beyond.

A vacancy has arisen in the Clinical Chemistry department for an Advances Biomedical Scientist (Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist) to join our Biochemistry team.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Biomedical Scientist to help drive excellence in laboratory operations. The post will be based at the Northern General Hospital but may require rotations to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital as we move towards a full Blood Sciences model. 

Applicants must possess an IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences, IBMS Specialist Diploma in Clinical Chemistry/ Blood Sciences and a relevant MSc/ Higher Specialist Diploma/ FIBMS.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registered
  • FIBMS or MSc (in Discipline or equivalent Discipline) or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma (Blood Sciences)
  • Evidence of continual professional development
  • Evidence of continual professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Further Management training.

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to complete and maintain Mandatory training and required laboratory competences
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and allocate work and work under pressure.

  • Prepared to work flexibly including participation in weekend and evening work and out of hours rota as required
  • Commitment to Providing 8am-8pm service and weekend out-of- hours work.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in a UKAS accredited clinical (Blood Sciences) Laboratory.
  • Experience with a wide range of Blood Sciences Diagnostic techniques
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in application and monitoring of UKAS standards.
  • Experience in demonstrating leadership qualities

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, QPulse, LIMS etc)
  • Ability to Lead a Team
  • Effective Communication skills, written and oral
  • Evidence of effective time management skills and with a methodical approach
  • Ability to motivate oneself and other staff
