Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian to join our Dietetic Team in The Active Together programme in Sheffield. We are pleased to be able this new role working in pre-habilitation oncology and head and neck cancer.
The Active Together programme runs alongside existing diagnostic and treatment pathways to ensure patients are optimally prepared for cancer treatment and beyond. It aims to maximise resilience to treatment, improve longer term health, minimise side effects and empower patients to be partners in their healthcare.
We are looking for a Dietitian interested in oncology who has strong communication and team working skills with a desire to develop their clinical knowledge. You will be supported by a Specialist Dietitian within The Active Together Team and have excellent opportunities for professional and personal development. This includes; involvement in audit, service development, study opportunities, evaluation and research within your clinical specialty.
Main duties of the job
We deliver nutrition teaching within a number of training programs and provide training to A,B & C placement students which you will be actively involved in.
To be responsible for the provision of a high quality Dietetic service to a clinical caseload in a designated speciality, using a high level of skill and knowledge as an independent practitioner.
To contribute to the development and implementation of evidence based clinical and teaching practice. Providing specialist advice and education in the designated speciality.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.
Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics
- Current HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
- BDA accredited clinical supervisory skills course for training students
- BDA accredited Behavioural change, counselling, motivational and cognitive behavioural skills course
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Positive and proactive
- Flexible
- Able to deal with conflict, aggression (infrequently)
- Able to deal with distressed patients and carers
Desirable criteria
- Due to the requirement to work across site, the post holder is required to be either a car driver with a valid driving licence or have access to an alternative means of transport
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to document and record accurately in line with national standards
- Familiar with and able to operate all necessary IT packages e.g. email, word, dietary analysis, power point
- Able to record activity and other data manually and electronically
- Able to develop educational resources to meet the varying needs of clients and carers which are evidence based
- Awareness of clinical governance and its implications for dietetics including importance of audit projects
- Able to use literature review search methods and can critically appraise evidence
- Aware of regulatory bodies and professional bodies codes of practice and professional guidelines
- Competent skills in teaching and training other health care professionals and student Dietitian’s
- Able to manage a caseload with frequently changing priorities and deal with interruptions.
- Ability to work as an integral member of MDT and as an autonomous practitioner
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills
- Able to relate and communicate clearly at all levels with patients colleagues and members of the MDT
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial dietetic experience in a variety of clinical specialities
- Evidence of independent working
- High level of knowledge of a range of clinical conditions and current best practice for dietetic management, especially Nutrition Support.
- Competent in behavioural change skills.
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development and commitment to continue through department appraisal system
- Willing to undergo further training at post registration level
- Experience of working with oncology patients.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in pre-habilitiation
