Job overview
We are currently looking to recruit a full-time substantive Consultant in Gastroenterology. This post presents an exceptional opportunity to join the multi-award-winning Sheffield Teaching Hospitals GI Directorate. The appointee must be a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent and is expected to have completed higher specialist training or equivalent in Gastroenterology. It is desirable that the appointee holds a higher medical degree (i.e. MD or PhD).
Applicants must be on the Specialist Register (for Gastroenterology) or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK.
Should any further vacancies arise, shortlisted candidates will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be responsible, with colleagues for provision of Gastroenterology services. The post comprises 10 PAs per week (1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) / 8.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCCs) including 0.5PA on call activity). This includes 1-2 outpatient clinic per week either general gastroenterology or specialist interest and 3-4 endoscopy lists per week. A Consultant of the Day model is in operation for acute specialist take and out of hours endoscopy. There is also an ‘on’ and ‘off’ ward rota to deliver front door and base ward care Gastroenterology/Hepatology care. There is the possibility of an additional PA available for research.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- MRCP or equivalent

Clinical experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Gastroenterology.
- Endoscopic experience for 5 years with appropriate JAG accreditation
- Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post

- Experience of Interventional Endoscopy (EMD, ESD & POEMS).
Research
Essential criteria
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
Desirable criteria
- Publications in Peer reviewed journals
Teaching and training
Essential criteria
- Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
CPD
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Management and Administration

- Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management
Clinical governance and audit

- Experience in performing clinical audit
