Job overview

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals are seeking a Locum Consultant in General Internal Medicine (with outpatients sessions in Diabetes and Endocrinology)  (12 months) to join our dynamic team in Diabetes and Endocrinology.  The successful candidate would contribute to inpatient ward work as well as carry out Endocrinology specialist outpatient clinics. 

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.

Main duties of the job

We are a tertiary centre for both Diabetes and Endocrinology.  The department is one of the major centres for Diabetes research in the UK, with a philosophy and culture of innovation; the service has won multiple awards in recent years.   The Endocrinology Department leads the Sheffield ENETS European Neuroendocrine Tumour Service, one of 12 in the UK, and is the regional centre Specialised Endocrine Services including pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid and genetic endocrine disease.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
  • Postgraduate professional qualifications MRCP or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • MD or PhD or equivalent
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty (if applicable) or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview

Clinical experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
  • Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post plus any specific experience required for the post.

Research

Essential criteria
  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
Desirable criteria
  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and training

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable criteria
  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administration

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with management groups

Clinical governance and audit

Essential criteria
  • Experience in performing clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project
