Job overview

The successful candidate will provide support to the Lead Consultant  in genome sequencing in the prevalent epilepsy population. The person would organise the phenotyping and logging of patient's and the associated administration to provide a seamless service.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 23 Months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

Main duties of the job

 To provide the support for Whole Genome Sequencing using the approved documentation.

Communicate effectively with colleagues, patient's and their family members.

Organise obtaining clinical samples

Provide Support to the lead Consultant

Gather family history

Obtain consent as required

Write patient information

Identify to emerging issues

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree qualification
  • Professional registration
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of any education related training programmes pertaining to obtaining informed consent from patients.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of the Trust’s confidentiality procedures (Data Protection Act and Caldicott guidelines).
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of caring for patients in a professional setting.
  • Understanding and knowledge of genetics.
  • Has undertaken the process of approaching and obtaining informed consent from patients.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good IT Skills, specifically in database management, Microsoft Excel and E-Record
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate collection of data to agreed timescales
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate well (written and verbally).

  • Venepuncture skills
