Job overview

We are looking to recruit three Consultant Neurologists to join our expanding team which delivers general and specialist neurological services across the South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire region. Outreach services are also provided at Barnsley, Doncaster, Bassetlaw, Rotherham, Chesterfield and Sheffield Northern General Hospitals in addition to the main site at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Combined with its unique model for delivering direct acute care and the co-located Hyper Acute Stoke Unit, this means that these positions promise stimulating workload variety and job plan design.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join an award winning and internationally recognised team, with a focus on innovation, research and high-quality care, as well as family friendly working.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers. Full time and part time posts are available and we are keen to discuss with applicants career ambitions.

Main duties of the job

Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the region and/or to change their base hospital.

The appointee, together with consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of adult neurological services to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and its outreach sites (including Doncaster, Bassetlaw, Barnsley, Rotherham and Chesterfield). The appointee will be expected to contribute to the routine outpatient general neurology, a ward liaison service at least one of these sites in addition to general and sub-specialty interest clinics in Sheffield.

The person appointed will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence.  They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department.

In line with the directorate’s policy to support research there are opportunities for appointees with the appropriate research interest and expertise to apply to the Academic Research Directorate for up to 1 research SPA depending on their research aspirations and if supported by the appropriate research theme lead.

Working for our organisation

Located on rolling hills and dissected by river valleys, Sheffield is one of the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe.
