Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and forward-thinking Occupational Therapist to join our Surgery Division therapy team based at the Northern General Hospital. This post will focus on where Occupational Therapy clinical leadership can add maximum benefit to a range of complex and diverse inpatient pathways currently including postoperative pathways, post critical care illness, amputees and out of hospital cardiac arrests.

We are a specialist regional centre for a range of specialities including cardiology, cardiothoracic, upper gastrointestinal, vascular (including amputees) and colorectal, as well as the Major Trauma Centre for South Yorkshire.

We are continually striving to ensure high quality therapy is delivered to maximise patient-centred outcomes and timely discharges and seek a visionary clinician who can actively contribute to the ongoing development of Occupational Therapy provision and help us deliver a service that fits the future needs for our services and the profession.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Comprehensive post-registration experience including experience at specialist/senior level within an acute inpatient environment
  • Knowledge of any acute medical and/or surgical specialities and experience of managing patients with complex rehabilitation needs
  • Sound knowledge, skills and experience in the education, training and development of pre-registration and post-registration learners
  • Excellent communication and team-working skills and a resilience to facilitate change management 
  • A commitment to quality improvement, evidence-based healthcare and collective leadership

The role offers the opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to grow their personal and professional development with both breadth and depth across a framework of clinical practice, education, leadership, and quality improvement & research.

There will be opportunities for:

  • Selected line management responsibilities and supervision and mentorship of therapy staff
  • A variety of teaching/training commitments within the Division, Acute Therapy Services and the MDT
  • Working with other senior colleagues and the professional leads to develop strategies for our future service delivery
  • Participation in a range of clinical governance/assurance/management forums

  • Experience in emergency respiratory on call including weekend work (PT only).
