A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Registered Nurse with a sense of ownership for their department and ensuring they deliver an efficient, positive working environment with a very clear patient focus to apply for a position as a band 6 Sister or Charge Nurse to help lead the nursing team on Ward 3/Teenage Cancer Unit Weston Park Cancer Centre at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Ward 3 provides specialist care to patients with a life limiting illness. This can be for symptom management or end of life care. As part of the role and joining the team it will be to work and support the Teenage Cancer Unit providing support care and treatment to teenage and young adults.
As a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse you will have the opportunity to be a clinical expert within a team of staff caring for patients and supporting relatives in end of life care.
You will be expected to support the band 7 in taking forward the acute oncology service through management, leadership and development of the unit and in ensuring patients receive the highest standards of care.
You must possess excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills alongside a vision for service development.
An informal visit is strongly recommended.
Main duties of the job
- To develop and provide specialised nursing care to a diverse range of patients and support to carers on the ward.
- To care for acutely unwell patients.
- To support patients and families in preparation for discharge or around the end of life and bereavement.
- To lead a team of qualified, support and student team members.
- Support the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse in ensuring the highest standard and quality of nursing care is delivered.

Weston Park Cancer Centre is the specialised cancer services directorate within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust providing oncology services across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire. It is a centre for outpatient and inpatient non-surgical cancer care, including chemotherapy, and is one of the leading Radiotherapy Centres in the country.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse (valid with NMC)
- Competent or willing to work toward chemotherapy administration.
- To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
Desirable criteria
- Post registration study and qualification, e.g. leadership, end of life care, oncology.
- Completion of short courses in HR functions, e.g. recruitment and selection, appraisal.
- PgCert
