We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and highly skilled nurse to join our dynamic ophthalmology department in the specialised Uveitis Service. The role will also involve taking on management and link nurse responsibilities, supporting the department’s leadership in ensuring high standards of care and operational efficiency.

As part of our team, you will be responsible for delivering specialised care for those with uveitis under the guidance of our experienced ophthalmologists. You will play a key role in the operational flow of the department, and in enhancing the care pathway for patients with ophthalmic conditions.

Main duties of the job

• The Trainee will undertake a structured training programme gaining ophthalmic skills i.e. use of the slit lamp, intra vitreal injections, Fundoscopy, triage and clinical knowledge, to manage patients attending the Eye Emergency Centre and the Uveitis service.
• With direct supervision working towards becoming an autonomous independent practitioner the post holder will undertake assessments related to the care needs of patients, plan programmes of care, implement and an evaluation of these programmes.
• They are accountable for their own professional actions.
• The Trainee will also ensure the safety and well-being of service users, and always work in a manner that promotes professionalism, dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.
• The training period is 12- 18 months with timely assessments, and a final formal skill and clinical knowledge review. 
• Upon completion the trainee will succeed into a substantive Band 6 role.
