Job overview

Part-time Specialty Dentist in Restorative Dentistry, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a special interest in endodontics.  The successful candidate will be based at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield. The full post entails 0.4 whole time equivalents. Starting salary to be based on experience.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

A dental degree or diploma from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution.  Registration with the General Dental Council.  A minimum of 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) since first obtaining registration, including adequate experience in the relevant specialty, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

Working for our organisation

The appointee will be expected to work independently under the supervision of one of the Consultants. They will be expected to have a good level of knowledge in the field of Oral Surgery. The post will involve delivering practical acute dental care, local anaesthetic, oral surgery and exodontia skills to undergraduate dental students.

The appointee will take his/her equal share in providing emergency cover and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence.

The successful candidate will work flexibly and cooperatively with the other members of the team in order to provide a high quality and comprehensive service within the Charles Clifford Dental Services Academic Directorate.  There are no on-call responsibilities associated with this post.

Qualifications/ Experience/ Entry Criteria

Essential criteria
  • Dental Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution
  • A minimum of 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time basis) at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in the relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in the specialty, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies
  • Full registration with the General Dental Council
  • Qualifications required for post BDS (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MFDS, MJDF, FDS or equivalent
  • Wider experience in different Restorative Dentistry units

Management and Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate and understanding of management & clinical governance issues

Audit/Research

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of the issues of clinical effectiveness and audit
Desirable criteria
  • Documented completed audits during training

Teaching
