The team at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust comprises of approximately 500 pharmacy staff working across five sites and is one of the biggest pharmacy departments in the country.
An exciting career opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward thinking pharmacy technician to join the technical services team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
Currently housing 11 pharmaceutical isolators with another 4 due imminently within the cutting edge ATMP/clinical trial facility being developed within Weston Park, prospective candidates have a unique opportunity to be involved in developing this service and be at the forefront of technical services in a large teaching hospital environment.

Main duties of the job
- To be responsible for the day-to-day management of aseptic dispensing services as well as the opportunity to support the Principal Pharmacy Technician within the clinical trial and ATMP suite, maximising efficiency and product quality.
- To be an integral part of the pharmacy team delivering a quality aseptic dispensing service for patients, staff of this Trust and other local healthcare providers.
- To assist in the implementation of developments within aseptic services to meet the needs of the patient, and to work towards the standardisation of aseptic services Trust-wide.
- To be responsible for the development, training and motivation of designated staff grades ensuring they feel valued both for their contribution to the department and as individuals.
- Provide specialist technical expertise in the preparation of injectable medicines.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent level
- Leeds University Aseptic Preparation of Medicines (APDM) short course, or be willing to undertake
- Current GPhC Registration (technician)
- Evidence of CPD
Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of GMP, QAPPS and QA and its application to Aseptic processing
- Knowledge of safe dispensing and aseptic practices
- Post qualification pharmacy practice experience of working in an aseptic/production environment
- Supervisory/training experience
- Leadership experience
- Basic computer skills
- H&S training, knowledge of handling hazardous chemicals according to local SOP
- Knowledge of pharmacy based computer systems
Desirable criteria
- Supervisory/Management experience.
- Understanding and use of the Chemocare electronic prescribing system
- Involvement in the preparation of intrathecal cytotoxics
- Aseptic BTEC or PTQA certificate or equivalent experience.
- ILM Certificate or equivalent level of experience of managing staff and services
