We are offering an exciting opportunity for suitable applicants to join the pharmacy clinical trials team at the Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Clinical Trials team is expanding its workforce to increase research at Sheffield teaching hospitals. The Trust is one of the busiest and most successful NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK.

The successful applicant will be supporting the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team in the delivery of a diverse portfolio of both commercially and non-commercially sponsored studies. Ensuring all current legislation, MHRA guidelines and Good Clinical Practice standards are met. Improving patient care through research and innovation is vital to everything we do. The post holder must be able to work with medical and nursing staff and other health care professionals.

Main duties of the job

 

  • To participate in the planning, organisation, provision and maintenance of the clinical trials service and to be part of the flexible working team in line with current departmental policies and procedures for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, current UK and EU legislation.
  • To remain part of the dispensary late night and week-end rota and Bank Holiday working arrangements.
  • The pharmacy provides a comprehensive array of services with the overall aim of ensuring safe, effective and economical use of medicines throughout the Trust.
  • The main focus of our role involves applying our extensive pharmaceutical knowledge to ensure that medicines are used in the most effective and appropriate way as well as reducing the incidence of any unwanted side effects.
  • Pharmacy has a Trust-wide responsibility for ensuring high quality medicines management and safe and secure storage of medicines.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 or BTEC level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or equivalent)
  • Current GPhC Registration (Pharmacy Technician)
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or working towards (ACPT) qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist technical / management modules or equivalent experience in aseptic preparation
  • Practice supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
  • ILM level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of good performance in previous posts
  • Previous significant experience of working in clinical trials
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working within service development projects
  • Experience in supervising staff within pharmacy
  • Extensive hospital pharmacy technician experience working in clinical trials
  • Experience of working in oncology
Desirable criteria
  • Dispensing for clinical trials experience
  • Hospital pharmacy aseptics experience
  • Managing staff experience

Special Skills/Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • GCP training
  • Knowledge of all aspects of current GCP and clinical trial trial legislation
  • Knowledge of current legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g., controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • Understanding of stock control systems
  • Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
  • Able to handle hazardous materials safely according to local procedures
  • Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
  • Have excellent communication skills; non-verbal, verbal and written, in order to communicate with a broad spectrum of people (healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical industry, research organisations and members of the public)
