An exciting career opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward thinking pharmacist to join the technical services team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Currently housing 11 pharmaceutical isolators with another 4 due imminently within the cutting edge ATMP/clinical trial facility being developed within Weston Park, prospective candidates have a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of technical services in a large teaching hospital environment.

We provide nationally commissioned services and expertise in support of Early Phase Clinical Trials, and we are part of a leading national network for the development of cancer drugs of the future (Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre).

Working between Weston Park Hospital and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, you will apply all your pharmaceutical knowledge whilst gaining new skills that are easily transferable.

You will work with the Accountable Pharmacists, to support the aseptic dispensing service, maximising efficiency, and product quality.

You will support the Accountable Pharmacists in setting up the newly built ATMP facility for the preparation of innovative treatments.  

To provide professional expertise, supervision, and release of products in the aseptic dispensaries.

To be responsible for standardising training and revalidation across STH aseptic dispensaries.

To provide pharmaceutical care to patients in defined clinical areas.

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 7 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 8a .

Qualifications

  • Registered Pharmacist with GPhC
  • MSc level qualification in Pharmacy
  • Post-graduate Clinical Diploma or equivalent demonstrable experience.

  • Independent Pharmacy Prescriber (IPP) status
  • Pharmaceutical Technology & Quality Assurance (PTQA) course qualification.
  • GCP certificate
  • Band 8a - Experience in a Qualified Person (QP) role.

Experience

  • Post registration experience of sufficient quality and quantity to enable demonstration of achievement in all aspects of the GLF.
  • Experience of working in an aseptic dispensing environment.
  • Release checking responsibility for CIVAS, TPN and/or chemotherapy.
  • Documented evidence of completed project work, audit, clinical trials and practice research.
  • Experience of supervision of staff.
  • Experience in delivering training and education to staff.
  • Understanding of the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice and Quality Assurance
  • Understanding of Section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act and the requirements that this brings
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice and experience of handling clinical trial material (IMP) in an aseptic unit.
  • Band 8a - Extensive experience in hospital pharmacy: - Aseptic services
  • Band 8a - Sound understanding of the principles of Oncology/haematology
  • Band 8a - Evidence of delivering service improvements.
  • Band 8a - Working knowledge of current GMP and QAAPS standards and legislation.
  • Band 8a - Enhanced knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and experience of handling clinical trial material (IMP) in an aseptic unit.
