Clinical Trials and Research Therapeutic Radiographer

The post holder will be a part of a team of experienced research support staff; which includes Research Nurses, Research Radiographers, Clinical Data Managers, Data Assistants and Clinical Trials Assistants (CTA’s) who deliver a range of studies across the oncology portfolio.

The main focus of work is recruiting patients to studies across a range of disease sites and early phased, experimental cancer studies.

The post holder will work under the supervision of a Senior Research Radiographer as part of a team managing and co-ordinating and delivering clinical research projects within the speciality of oncology.

As part of the team the Research Radiographer will assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients in line with research protocols across a breadth of oncology indications.

The post holder will work as part of the larger research team to develop and deliver recruitment targets and strategies to meet these targets.

The post holder will ensure that research safeguards are in place to protect the well-being of research subjects and that research is conducted within the Regulatory Framework.

As part of the co-ordination responsibilities the post holder will be expected to represent the Cancer Clinical Trials Centre (CCTC) at national and international meetings.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across the Trust’s clinical research landscape in response to the needs of the service.
This is a permanent post.

  • DCR(T) or BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiographer.

  • Possess current GCP certificate
  • Management qualifications/evidence of M level study.

Further Training

  • Experience with a networked record and verify system. Demonstrate ambition in personal development and in service development. Evidence of operating at an advanced level of practice.

  • HCPC Registered Therapeutic Radiographer.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge and skills in clinical practice.
  • Understands the principles of research and clinical trials.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of the needs of the individual with cancer.
  • Knowledge of current oncology trials.
  • Be willing to undertake further training.

Experience

  • Significant experience in a senior post or extensive experience in a radiographer post.
  • Wide experience with equipment and techniques.
  • Able to deal with frequent direct exposure to emotional circumstances in relation to terminal illness. Where patients and relatives may be upset or angry when they are told their diagnosis of cancer or that they have a recurrence or terminal illness.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Able to work either alone or in a team to co-ordinate the efficient running of allocated clinical trials and manage own caseload of patients participating in trials in various treatment modalities and tumour types whilst working to specific deadlines.
  • Able to work closely with the CCTC Matron, CCTC staff, Superintendent III and Principal Research and Development Therapeutic Radiographer Manager to set up and develop the communication channels and processes required to provide a comprehensive clinical trial service.
  • An interest and commitment to advancing patient care through research.
