The Laboratory Medicine Directorate is divided into several specialist departments including Automated Blood Sciences, Specialist Blood Sciences, Blood Transfusion, Point of Care Testing, Microbiology, Virology and Histology. 

The successful candidate will be expected to work weekends, weekdays and bank holidays on a rotational basis to support and lead the 7 day service.

Main duties will Include:

·         To oversee the staff and activities within the support services team.

·         To organise and prioritise daily tasks for self and other members of their team - stores team

·         Redirect and assist with the delivery of specimens to laboratories as appropriate.

·         Managing stock and stock rotation using inventory management systems.

·         To supervise the preparation of orders for goods and services via Trust and Managed service systems following agreed protocols and order calendars. Submitting orders for Manager approval. 

·         To update records and databases as appropriate, e.g., media batch. numbers, delivery of goods information etc.

·         To prioritise own workload, decision making and problem solving in own area of practice in media, waste disposal and the inventory management system.

·         To undertake appropriate administrative duties.  

·         Candidate may be required to undertake a degree of mobility of managing staff across SYBP.

Qualifications:

Essential criteria

  • Foundation level degree, level 4 qualification or demonstrable experience.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above or equivalent.  
  • NVQ 3 in Warehousing and Storage or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of short courses / qualifications or equivalent demonstrable experience in supervision of staff/ staff management.
  • Microsoft Office Packages – evidence of short courses or relevant experience.

Desirable criteria

  •     Certificate in Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
  •        Certificate in medical gas handling (BOC) or equivalent.

 

Experience:

Essential criteria

  • Experience in the use of Inventory management systems.
  • Experience in goods receipting and stock management.
  • Ability to work with other staff to improve and develop working practices.
  • Experience of working in a confidential environment.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in the operation of Laboratory autoclaves.
  • Experience with NHS/Healthcare order management software.
  • Recent & relevant experience working in a multidisciplinary environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

Essential criteria

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, Access etc).
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral.
  • Able to follow and work to SOP and Policies.
  • Strong time management, adaptability to change, and efficient handling of workload priorities.
  • Knowledge of office health and safety standards.
  • Ability ;to build relationships, work under pressure, and contribute to a high-quality service.
  • Commitment to the role.
