Job overview

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the Sheffield Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service working on the Hospital wards within the acute SLT team.  It is an exciting environment, and you would be working within a supportive and very friendly team.

The post is a permanent, full time Band 6 position. Applications for part time would be considered.

We would consider applications from Band 5 SLTs who are looking for a development opportunity to progress to a Band 6. However, you must have completed your NQP (Newly Qualified Practitioner) RCSLT competencies to be considered for this, please do not apply if this is not the case. A Band 5-6 development post would be worked through following an in house competency based structure.

The successful candidate will be based in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals SLT service working as members of the team providing SLT to the acute wards across three hospitals, the Northern General, the Royal Hallamshire and Weston Park.

They will provide clinical Speech & Language Therapy to a defined specialised caseload as part of the SLT team.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical speech and language therapy services to a defined specialised caseload of adult patients as part of the acute ward SLT team.

To specialise in the assessment and management of communication disorders and dysphagia.

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon an applicant’s experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant will start at Band 5 unless they meet the necessary threshold skills and experience required to start on Band 6.

Working for our organisation

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.

The SLT service across both the acute and community teams in STH has approximately 55 staff (47 therapists, 7 assistants and 4 secretarial staff) (41.23wte).

The SLT teams are highly motivated to provide a quality service to their patients, they are research active and embrace innovation. The service has established processes for supervision and supports personal and professional development.
