Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated ad progressive Pharmacy Technician to join our Pharmacy Homecare Team based at Bassetlaw Hospital. The team manages the Homecare Service across the whole of the Trust.

The successful candidate must be a qualified Pharmacy Technician (BTEC National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences/NVQ3 in Pharmaceutical Skills, or equivalent) and registered with the GPhC. Original certificates would be required to be presented at interview.

Candidates with equivalent qualifications from overseas must also hold a Statement of Comparability. This must also be provided at interview.

Hours for the post are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm with 1 hours unpaid break per day.

The candidate will be expected to participate in the rota for the extended hours opening of the department. Currently this is 2 hours on a Saturday morning as well as a full 7.5 hour day on bank holidays

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of a high quality Pharmacy Homecare Service to the Trust and its external customers;
  • Receive and raise orders using the Wellsky Homecare module to forward to Homecare providers along with prescriptions; prioritising as appropriate;
  • Train to an advance level to be able to assist with the Homecare patient database, Homecare provider on-line portals and the Wellsky Homecare module;
  • Work to minimise delays in delivery of medication to patients by ensuring that orders are placed promptly and prescriptions are made available to the Homecare Providers at the appropriate time;
  • Use initiative to deal with problematic and/or urgent pharmaceutical orders, analysing options and making judgements where appropriate so that patient safety is not compromised;
  • Accurately review simple and complex invoices for Homecare medicines referring to individual contracts for pricing; identifying and resolving any discrepancies and chase up any outstanding invoice queries with the relevant Homecare providers;
  • Act as a point of contact and deal with verbal and written complaints, safety issues, and assist with the investigating of DATIX incidents;
  •  Authorise further supplies of medications according to agreed protocols;
  • Deputise for the Pharmacy Homecare Services Manager in their absence;
  • Participate in the bank holiday and extended hours rota as required.

Essential criteria
  • BTEC Level 3 Pharmaceutical Science with NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent.
  • Registered with the GPhC.
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited Checking Technician.
  • Supervisory Management qualification e.g. NVQ level 2
  • Evidence of MS Office courses
  • Experience of maintaining a database
  • Team Leading or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven pharmacy experience.
  • Previous experience of training/supervising staff
Desirable criteria
  • Familiar with automated dispensing experience
  • Familiar with a changing working environment
  • Hospital pharmacy experience
  • Experience of ward based pharmacy services
