Consultant Applied Psychologist - Health in Justice

We are looking for a 0.4 WTE Consultant Applied Psychologist to provide clinical leadership for the review and development of the health-related psychological provision for men in prison on HMP IoW. Inclusion/MPUFT took on the contract for mental health services in HMP Isle of Wight on 1st April 2023. This new role has been created through a review of the psychology structure within this contract.
You will work with key colleagues, especially the Team Manager and Senior Cluster Manager, to review the current need for psychological services and to develop clear pathways into treatment through the mental health and substance use service. You will also work with partner agencies (e.g. PPG) to develop effective working relationships that support the delivery of high quality services, as well as working with HMPPS colleagues to support their development of a trauma informed wing within the prison.
You will clinically supervise other psychology and therapy colleagues as well as overseeing the provision of psychological consultation and formulation to wider teams.

In this role you will lead on the delivery of a high quality clinical psychology service to HMP Isle of Wight, working closely with operational colleagues to address any barriers within the establishment.
Other key duties:
- Deliver and supervise high quality evidence based psychological intervention
- Leadership and development of the Inclusion psychology team within HMP Isle of Wight (structure: 0.5 B7 psychologist/psychological therapist, 1.0 WTE B6 counsellor and 1.0 WTE B4 Graduate Mental Health Worker)
- Continue to lead the development of the psychology service, exploring opportunities to introduce new psychological professions roles to prisons (e.g. MHWP and CAP)
- Supervise and deliver reflective practice
- Work as a senior member of the Inclusion psychology team, deputising for the Inclusion Professional Lead for Psychology as needed

For this post we will offer
- MPFT will offer an additional 20% ‘welcome to MPFT bonus', 10% on joining us and 10% after a period of 12 months service
- An equivalent allowance can be offered which will enable the individual to pay for yearly professional registration fees up to £120.00 per year
- A contribution for relocation fees is also available upon application

The successful applicant will work as part of a full multi-disciplinary and fully integrated Mental Health and Substance Use Service. Interventions are offered in line with a stepped care model with a single point of access for prisoners experiencing mental health or substance use difficulties
You will also be joining the supportive Inclusion psychology team who meet quarterly for training, CPD and professional support. We will support your access to regular clinical supervision and appropriate professional development within your role.
Experience of working in a secure forensic or criminal justice setting would be advantageous but not essential.

- HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice (eg neuropsychology) as required for specific clinical post
- Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
Experience

- Working as a qualified applied psychologist within a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings (experience in prison or other forensic settings particularly relevant)
- Providing clinical and professional leadership to other qualified and non-qualified members of the profession
