As a CAMHS Mental Health Liaison Practitioner you will provide mental health assessment and support for patients within general hospital settings and develop and implement care plans in co-operation with the General Hospital staff, ensuring Acute providers and Psychiatric Liaison services have access to specialist CAMHS knowledge and resources. 

You will join an extended Mental Health Liaison Service for all-age mental health problems across the two main hospital sites across Shropshire and Telford area. The role will have two site bases at Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and will ensure Children and Young People have access to quality and timely psychiatric assessment.

You will improve the overall quality and provision of psychological aspects of care by sharing mental health skills and knowledge with other health care colleagues, ensuring pathways for Children and Young People attending Acute Providers are safe and effective, clearly communicated and robustly evaluated.

Provide mental health assessment to both adults and young people and support for patients within general hospital settings and develop and implement care plans in co-operation with the General Hospital staff, ensuring Acute providers and Psychiatric Liaison services have access to specialist CAMHS knowledge and resources.

  • To participate and support the offer of Psychiatric Liaison to Children and Young People in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
  • To participate in the collection of data relating to the Liaison Mental Health project.
  • To actively promote the Liaison Mental Health principles within the acute hospitals to ensure that other professions and agencies understand the Liaison Mental Health Service.
  • To undertake assessment of mental health and care needs of inpatients in the acute hospitals with mental health problems in cooperation with multi-disciplinary teams within the hospital.
  • To undertake assessment of carer views and needs and provide appropriate advice and support.
  • To provide clinical advice relating to complex mental health issues to nurses and other health care professionals within Shropshire’s DGHs.
  • To effectively refer to and liaise with a range of agencies and services so that the patient’s mental health needs are met effectively and appropriately during their admission and following discharge from the acute hospital setting.
  • To promote and maintain the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To ensure personal awareness of all Trust polices, including Administration of Medicines, Confidentiality, Records and Record keeping.
