Job overview

The Catering staff ensure that all food provided complies with Food Safety Regulations and meals are appetising and attractively served.

The post holder will be expected to work as part of the wider team, providing an integrated and flexible service, and as such may sometimes be required to undertake duties within other areas of the Facilities Department should the needs of the service demand it.

Main duties of the job

  • Prepare food orders ready to order from supplier
  • Maintain stock control ensuring that regular stock checks and rotation is carried out
  • Unload, check and sign for incoming goods against official paperwork, process and file standard order forms and advice notes
  • Deliver, issue and collect orders, food and supplies to/from wards and departments
  • Deal with enquiries/requests both internally and externally
  • Pack and check food orders for ward
  • Maintain and keep up to date records in relation to duties,/stock
  • Ensure the delivery area is kept clean and tidy at all times
  • Concentration will be required when operating lifting machinery and when checking goods orders
  • The post holder is expected to have a clear understanding and share the Mission, Values and Behaviours of the Trust which defines our culture.  All staff are required to promote and adhere to these

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Willing to complete all in-house training necessary to own role
  • Basic food hygiene certificate
  • Basic HACCP certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Willing to undertake training work towards a qualification to fulfil the role, e.g. diploma level (NVQ) relevant to the post

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience to carry out duties to the required standard
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Computer literate
  • Experience in food preparation and cooking
  • Manual handling experience
  • Valid driving licence

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Ability to solve a problem (in line with the role level)
  • Ability to allocate work
  • Basic knowledge of chemicals and cleaning products
