The Brockington is an eight bedded specialist facility which can accommodate 8 mothers and their babies (babies who are up to 12 months prior to admission). We also admit pregnant women who are 32 weeks pregnant or above. We aim to provide inpatient mental health services to women experiencing psychological and emotional difficulties related to the latter stages of pregnancy, childbirth and early motherhood. We offer a range of evidence-based psychological interventions including EMDR, CFT, DBT, and also parent-infant interventions, and work closely as a multi-disciplinary team.

We are seeking an assistant psychologist to join the Brockington to assist the Principal Clinical Psychologist in providing psychological assessment, attachment-focused individual interventions, and group-based interventions, under supervision, working within the limits agreed by the supervisor. We are pleased to have funding for the Assistant Psychologist to be trained in the Circle of Security-Parenting Approach. The post would suit individuals interested in going on to pursue a career in clinical psychology, and support with application to the Clinical Psychology Doctorate will be offered, alongside regular Clinical Supervision.

Under the supervision of an HCPC Principal Clinical Psychologist

• To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of service users applying psychological, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct & indirect structured observations & semi-structured interviews with service users, family members & others involved in the service user’s care.
• To assist in the formulation & delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a service user’s problems, including simple procedures & techniques related to psychology therapies.
• To assist in the co-ordination & running of therapeutic groups.
• To deliver evidence-based psychological interventions on an individual basis to service users. 
• To assist in the delivery of a psychologically based framework of understanding & care to the benefit of all clients of the service.
• To attend & contribute to appropriate MDT meetings.
• To review case files, etc. where appropriate, analysing that information, providing summaries & reports under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
• To prepare reports on assessments & clinical interventions with individuals & groups, the results of psychometric assessments, case note reviews & research/audit projects. Such reports may be written for, or read by, the service user, psychologists, members of the MDT team, or staff from external agencies.
