Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Advanced Physiotherapist to lead the Respiratory Medicine Service as part of the Medical Therapy Team at the University Hospital of North Midlands, based at County Hospital.  We are looking for an enthusiastic therapist ready to step into this advanced role, who is able to embrace the challenges and opportunities of working in an acute trust environment.  

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Physiotherapist in the speciality of Respiratory Medicine to deliver assessments and treatments across the Inpatient wards as well as taking on an Advanced Therapist / Team Leader role on the County site. The post holder will be working alongside an experienced Respiratory specialist and within a team of Advanced Therapists with expertise including, neurology, rehabilitation, emergency care and palliative care.

Main duties of the job

·         To work as a specialised practitioner managing the clinical delivery of care in a specialised area.

·         To lead the clinical team within your area and organise staff and resources to meet service standards and demands.

·         Patients include the  acute and chronic respiratory, multi pathology / complex patients, neurological, cognitively and perceptually impaired

·         To be responsible for the provision of specialist training to therapy staff and other members of the MDT.

·         Use analytical and problem solving skills to interpret, analyse and evaluate complex information from a variety of sources

·         To provide cover for other teams within the Directorate based on your knowledge, skills and competencies in order to meet changing priorities and service demands.

The post holder will be encouraged to develop innovative ways of working and consolidate their leadership and management skills as well as overseeing the implementation of clinical audit recommendations and facilitation of service development.  In addition there are opportunities to contribute to specialist steering groups and to build further clinical expertise that will enhance existing skills. This role also collaboratively oversees the management of the County on call rota ensuring all participating staff are competent and prepared.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/ Diploma in Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of personal & professinal development
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards a higher qualification qualification relevant to speciality e.g. Master's degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate experience (NHS) with considerable experience in speciality area
  • Experience of working as a senior physiotherapist within the speciality area
  • Experience of teaching students, staff & other proessional groups
  • Trained clinical educator
  • Evidence of on-call and respiratory competence
Desirable criteria
  • Experience gained within an acute setting
  • Involvement in audit/research
