Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and forward thinking Technical Instructor who is interested in developing their rehabilitation skills within the stroke and trauma pathway and as part of a developed and recently extended holistic outreach service in the community, offering Therapy Enhanced Discharge (TED) from the acute hospital into the community incorporating a care element. Our community service covers the specialties stroke, neurology and trauma & orthopaedic.

Interdisciplinary working and patient centred care is fundamental to our practice, to enable patients to achieve their optimal level of independence.

Therapy experience is not essential for this post; in house training and comprehensive competencies will be offered to the successful applicant.

Supervision will be provided by the Band 5/6/7 Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist and personal development is supported through appraisal and internal and external training.

You will be an integral part of our innovative and friendly team working with patients following specialised care; the integrated therapy team covers a 7 day working week from 07.30 until 20.00 (long day working).

Driving license and access to car are essential for this post, as travel in the community will be required.

Main duties of the job

• This post provides support for registered physiotherapists in a range of clinical and non-clinical tasks as part of the therapy service on the Stroke Unit and Therapy Enhanced Discharge (TED) community service.

• The team provides rehabilitation Monday - Sunday and so the post holder will be expected to work weekends.

• Caseload will vary but will include complex stroke/trauma patients receiving rehabilitation from the multidisciplinary team.

• To accept patients delegated by therapists and band 4's and carry own patient caseload within agreed guidelines, to manage own caseload to ensure an effective and efficient service is offered.

• To work without direct supervision, but under the guidance of the qualified staff in the performance of specific tasks for an individual or group of patients, as part of their treatment and rehabilitation programmes.

• To work within protocols and competencies specific to this post.

• To undertake an active role in supporting, the team to plan, co-ordinate and deliver therapy services on the Acute Stroke Unit and TED.

• Contribute to evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and the teams' clinical practice.

• To be an active participant in the inter-professional working of our directorate.

• The successful candidate will have the ability to carry out some administrative tasks as required.

• You will receive regular supervision and take an active role in attending our Technical Instructor in service training programme.

  • • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in relevant subject or equivalent experience/qualification
  • • Car owner & Full UK driving licence

Experience

  • • Relevant experience in the NHS or Health / Care setting
