Are you a health professional with experience working with neurodiverse children and young people?
We are looking for 2 ASD practitioners, one part time [18.75 hours] and one full time [37.5 hours] to join our team conducting diagnostic assessments and providing post-diagnostic support to children, young people and their families. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding multidisciplinary team, working in a CQC Outstanding rated Trust.
The post holder would join our friendly multi-disciplinary team and work with our Autism Spectrum Disorder Service, with close links with the Mental Health Services and Local Authority Partners. The main aspects of the role include conducting specialist autism assessments, contributing to MDT diagnostic and formulation meetings and, planning and facilitating post-diagnosis support.

To work with a team with the aim of reducing/preventing hospital admission of autistic people (non-learning disabled) as part of the existing ASD assessment and diagnosis.
To deliver advice, training, consultancy and clinical supervision in respect of autistic people ( children, young people and adults, and who do not have a learning disability) who are admitted to the acute mental health wards and/or are in receipt of services from the trusts community Mental Health Teams in North Staffordshire. They will also provide expert advice to support autistic people who are transitioning back to North Staffordshire from out of area hospitals. They will also provide advice, guidance and consultation to the service user, their families, and other professionals and non-professionals who may be involved in the person’s care.
The post aims to reduce the health inequalities faced by autistic people within services and to support the clinical teams/clinicians who are working with the individuals with Autism, so that the workforce can adapt their approach to best meet the needs of autistic people and make the necessary reasonable adjustments

The key aims of this post are to improve the quality of care received by autistic people with significant mental health needs in three main areas: a) when people are admitted to acute psychiatric inpatient wards within the trust b) when people are receiving input from Community Mental Health Services and are at high risk of admission to an acute inpatient bed and c) when autistic people are transitioning back to North Staffordshire with mental health needs after receiving treatment in an out of area hospital.
- To take a lead role in the development and day to day running of the new service, working in consultation and collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team members and service users.
- Development of the roles of band 2 – 4 support workers
- Supervision of band 2 – 4 support workers.
- Working therapeutically in community settings.
- Establishing links with key local ASD and other voluntary sector organisations.
- Working in collaboration with existing mental health services such as Community Mental Health Teams, Access Services and other Trust teams as appropriate.

Qualifications
Meini prawf hanfodol
- A registered mental health practitioner with a degree in nursing, social work or occupational therapy.
- Evidence of professional updating and development at diploma level in the delivery of services to people with mental health issues.
Experience

- Experience of working therapeutically in community settings.
- Experience of working with children and young people and/or adults and their carers/families with a range of mental health needs
Knowledge

- Knowledge of various approaches to mental health assessment and engagement
- Knowledge and understanding of autism spectrum disorder and contemporary approaches to working with autistic individuals
