A unique and exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced and proactive Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist at the UHNM Heart Centre (incorporating Thoracic Surgery). UHNM Cardiothoracic Surgery serves both local and regional patients, providing the highest standards of anaesthetic care for leading edge procedures, including Mitra Clip, Minimal Invasive Cardiac Bypass Surgery and TAVI. The successful applicant will join a team of 11 Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists, working within the integrated cardiac services, which includes: Cardiothoracic Critical Care, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and a comprehensive Cardiology Department. The service is continuing to expand and the ideal candidate will be focused on providing the highest possible standard of patient care and contributing to service growth, development and innovation.
Main duties of the job
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training) and should be proficient in all aspects of adult cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care.

The service is undergoing substantial expansion and you will join a strong team of (over 40) existing Consultants in the Heart Centre. The centre has a successful programme of interventional research with a growing cardiovascular academic unit with two professors, is active in national and international educational events, and has strong links with Keele University. There will be opportunities to participate in the research programme.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- FRCA or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry via CCT within 6 months of date of the AAC CESR
Desirable criteria
- Other higher degree (PhD, Masters)
Clinical Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- Experience working as a Fellow or an Advanced Trainee in CT Anaesthesia
- Independent TOE skills
Desirable criteria
- TOE certification
- Postgraduate qualification in medical education
- Experience of undergraduate teaching and supervision
- Experience of clinical supervision and mentorship
Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working
Essential criteria
- Experience in research
Desirable criteria
- Peer reviewed publications
- Evidence of continuing research
