Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

A unique and exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced and proactive Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist at the UHNM Heart Centre (incorporating Thoracic Surgery). UHNM Cardiothoracic Surgery serves both local and regional patients, providing the highest standards of anaesthetic care for leading edge procedures, including Mitra Clip, Minimal Invasive Cardiac Bypass Surgery and TAVI. The successful applicant will join a team of 11 Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists, working within the integrated cardiac services, which includes: Cardiothoracic Critical Care, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and a comprehensive Cardiology Department. The service is continuing to expand and the ideal candidate will be focused on providing the highest possible standard of patient care and contributing to service growth, development and innovation.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training) and should be proficient in all aspects of adult cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care.

Working for our organisation

The University Hospital of North Midlands is a great place to work.  We employ more than 7,000 staff in Staffordshire, making us a major employer in Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding areas.  The hospital provides tertiary Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery services for over three million people across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire and South Cheshire, as well as secondary care cardiology for the local population.  The service is undergoing substantial expansion and you will join a strong team of (over 40) existing Consultants in the Heart Centre. The centre has a successful programme of interventional research with a growing cardiovascular academic unit with two professors, is active in national and international educational events, and has strong links with Keele University. There will be opportunities to participate in the research programme.
