The post is for a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist to work in a team of 8 paediatric anaesthetists along with 69 Consultants, 1 specialist and 15 SAS Consultant colleagues providing a comprehensive anaesthetic service to the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing a safe and efficient anaesthetic service to the children attending RSUH and will maintain a wide knowledge in some aspects of adult anaesthesia. Main duties of the job
- To actively engage and participate in the delivery of a safe and effective Anaesthetic Services at the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust (Childrens Hospital@Royal Stoke)
- To provide Consultant Anaesthetic cover for elective and emergency paediatric surgery at Royal Stoke university Hospital including preoperative assessment and postoperative care
- To participate in Consultant Paediatric anaesthetist On call Rota, currently 1:8
- To participate in Pre-Assessment clinics and MDT meetings
- liver a high-quality anaesthetic service, supporting the department with a positive attitude towards flexible working.
- Work with the acute pain team to provide safe and effective postoperative analgesia to patients in relation to Paediatrics.
- To actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement activities in the department
- To actively participate in teaching, training and supervision of anaesthetic trainees and medical students from Keele Medical School.

You will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleague in the efficient running of our services and will share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management. Subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service, you are expected to observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust. In particular, where you manage employees of the Trust, you will be expected to follow the local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures. You will be expected to make sure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
You have responsibility for the work and supervision of junior medical staff who work with you, and you will devote time to this activity on a regular basis. If appropriate, you will be named in the contracts of doctors in training grades as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as the initial source of advice to such doctors on their careers. They also contribute to the formal teaching programme of junior staff both within the speciality and the hospital as a whole. They also contribute to the teaching programme in the Undergraduate Medical School (Keele University) & contribute to the teaching programmes of other health professionals in the hospital.

- 1 year advanced training in Paediatric Anaesthesia
