Consultant in Clinical Haematologist/Senior Lecturer

We are looking to appoint a Consultant in Clinical Haematology

You will join a cohesive team of 15 other consultant colleagues to deliver a haemato-oncology and general haematology service at Leighton Hospital and RSUH.  Outpatient clinics within the department are presently being restructured to increase the degree of subspecialisation, and you will provide 4 outpatient clinics weekly, including Lymphoma/CLL clinics at RSUH and Leighton hospitals.  You will be expected to provide leadership in the further development of the Myeloma and plasma cell disorders and support research in the myeloma service across all three sites. Approximately 70 new patients with Myeloma are referred to the department (all sites) annually. Outpatient clinics are organised on a team basis, with 2-4 consultants working within each clinic, depending on subspecialty interest. Outpatient clinics usually include 4-6 new patients or 13-15 follow-up patients per consultant.

The post holder is expected to work with Research and Innovation department and Keele university develop and sustain Myeloma and plasma cell disorder academic research in UHNM and foster collaboration in UK Myeloma Research Alliance and other active organisations nationally and internationally.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of haematologists with a specific role in the Myeloma and research services in the Directorate, as part of this role you will also be required to attend the relevant MDT’s for each site.

The appointee will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of the Haemto-Oncology service and will share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution of management. Subject to the provisions of the Trust Terms and Conditions of Service, the appointee will be expected to observe the Unit’s agreed policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.

In particular, where the appointee is involved in the management of employees of the Trust, he/she will be expected to follow the local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures. The appointee will be expected to make sure there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of his/her patients to be able to contact him or her when necessary.

  • Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)

  • MRCP UK or Equivalent FRCPath (or equivalent) MD or PhD

  • Existing special interest in Myeloma or willingness to develop this.
