Band 3 Senior Assistant Technical Officer – Pharmacy Production. Technical Services

Full Time –equating to 37.5 hours per week, part time will be considered- 18.75hrs

The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) is a large teaching hospital, serving over 3 million people. It has two sites, The Royal Stoke Hospital based in Stoke-on-Trent and The County Hospital based at Stafford. An ambitious £300 million modernisation scheme, nearing completion, has relocated all the innovative services of this dynamic teaching hospital and Keele Medical School on to a single site at the Royal Stoke Hospital. There is currently an ambitious modernisation programme being undertaken at The County Hospital.

The Technical Services department within pharmacy opened in September 2012 and holds an MHRA ‘Specials’ manufacturing licence. The service encompasses aseptic, chemotherapy, non-sterile and pre-pack labelling and repackaging of medicines. The Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) department support the MHRA licence and also provide Quality Control support in regard to the preparation of radio pharmaceuticals for the Trust

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self motivated senior assistant technical officer to work with our team in technical services.

The successful person will be required to set up and prepare medicines made within Pharmacy Technical Services. This will involve working in a controlled environment and wearing protective garments and shoes. The post holder will be expected to understand and follow standard operating procedures and have good manual dexterity.

In addition the post holder will be required to assist with the operation and maintenance of quality systems ensuring compliance with the terms of the MHRA Manufacturing “Specials” Licence in regards to all compounding and manufacturing processes.

The employee will be supported with external and internal training in pharmacy services and associated technical activities where required.

Essential Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 4 GCSEs grade C/4 or above or equivalent must include Maths, English and Science
  • AND NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services OR equivalent relevant qualification to area of speciality
Desirable criteria
  • A Levels / Degree level education in science related field

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of following standard working instructions/procedures
  • IT skills
  • Team working
  • Experience of stock control
  • Ability to investigate queries, taking action if appropriate
  • Prides oneself on maintaining a high standard of work
Desirable criteria
  • At least 1 years’ previous experience in a similar role
  • Experience of good manufacturing practice
  • Preparation of aseptic products
