Job overview

North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare are looking to recruit to a full time, Band 7, Non-Medical [Nurse] Prescriber.  The post will be at North Stoke CAMHS in Tunstall.

The successful applicants will:

  • Work within the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Principles and as an Independent Prescriber will be accountable for pharmacological treatment.
  • Work within Trust Policies, procedures, local protocols and guidance including NICE publications.
  • Plan and deliver Nurse led clinics and interventions.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate specialist teaching programmes for all disciplines.

Main duties of the job

Plan and deliver Nurse led clinics and Interventions to Children and Young People with complex Mental Health needs.

Prescribe and monitor medication for the management of complex Mental Health needs with supervision from medical staff.

Contribute to the assessment of specific complex Mental Health needs within the multidisciplinary team.

Have overall responsibility for assessment, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of individual programmes of care.

Be responsible and accountable for the assessment of patients with diagnosed and undiagnosed conditions and for decisions about the clinical management required, including prescribing.

Develop, deliver and evaluate specialist teaching programmes for all disciplines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Maintain and update clinical knowledge regarding policies and evidence based practice within the relevant nursing field and will disseminate relevant information to colleagues in the service.

Ensure awareness of statutory responsibilities held by partner agencies to ensure standards are achieved.

Maintain and update own clinical knowledge skills and professional portfolio within Professional (NMC) guidelines.

Participate in, and use National Prescribing centre competencies framework, to undertake audit and review, of prescribing practice and medicines management.

Maintain relevant clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge, critically appraise and apply information in practice.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Core nurse qualification e.g. RMN, RNLD,RSCN.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of specialist mental health assessment and treatment of children and adolescents and their families/carers where appropriate as a full member of a multi-disciplinary team located in community, primary care, outpatients or inpatient settings.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Qualified in being able to independently or supplementary prescribe medication, monitor and review, for children with a diagnosis of ADHD or other mental health concerns where medication is prescribed.
