We have a newly created post for a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the newly developed Cystic Fibrosis Psychology Service within the Clinical Health Team at NSCHT. 

Band 8a - £50,952 - £57,349 per annum - 37.5 hours per week, full time.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Clinical Psychologist, to support the innovation and development of the psychological services across the CF care pathway, working alongside the Principal Psychologist for the service to ensure an effective life span service for patients with CF under the care of North West Midlands CF Centre.

You will provide assessment and intervention for patients over the age of 18, and clear goals for therapy will be agreed with the patient and/or family.

·       Promoting  effective team working (including facilitating good communication between team members and patients; debrief after events which have had a significant impact upon the team

·        ‘Gatekeeping’, screening and onward referral of patients to mental health services and/or other relevant agencies (e.g. liaison psychiatry, community mental health services, specialist neurodiversity assessment services) and expert ongoing liaison with these services as appropriate).

·       Liaise with Network Clinics, social services and other community agencies for psychosocial input.

·       Advise the CF MDT on management of significant risk issues when required and coordinate rapid access to on-call child and adult psychiatry services in cases of urgent psychiatric assessment for mental health concerns or risks (all CF Centres and clinics should be aware of their Trust’s emergency psychiatric access policy).

·       Help the CF team develop good models of self-care through advising on team processes to prevent, monitor and manage staff stress

You will have experience of leading services and a demonstrable interest in working with adults with physical health problems, and working with an MDT. There will be an expectation to work from site.

 Candidates for a band 7 preceptorship would be considered for this post.

To provide specialist psychological assessment of adults with psychological distress / needs associated with a diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis utilising information from a broad range of structured psychometric and semi-structured clinical methods. To integrate this information into a psychological formulation of the client and his/her psychosocial environment, drawing on a range of psychological theoretical perspectives.

To oversee and provide psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to individuals and groups in a community setting in order to facilitate emotional adjustment and promote improved quality of life. 

To undertake a range of psychological therapeutic interventions, drawing on a number of psychological models and employing a range of modalities. To make decisions about treatment options taking into account highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.   

To keep up to date with best practices and advances in practice

To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under the care of the liaison service integrating the contribution of other professionals on the basis of client need.

To take substantial professional responsibility and exercise autonomous judgement with regard to his/her professional practice.

o be responsible for providing a specialist psychological perspective in the multi-disciplinary assessment of service users and their families or carers.

To contribute highly specialist psychological advice and consultation to the multi-disciplinary formulation of appropriate therapeutic approaches or intervention plans, and to be involved in, or oversee specialist psychological aspects of their implementation in collaboration with other staff. 

To undertake psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant clients and to provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk to the multi-disciplinary team.

To consult with and provide specialist psychological guidance to carers and families of service users.

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. HCPC registration as a clinical or counselling psychologist

Experience

  • Experience of working effectively as a suitably qualified clinical with adults with complex mental health needs. Therapeutic work with clients with co-existing mental and physical health problems.
