Critical care at UHNM has 36 General and Neuro-intensive care beds covered by 12 Consultants, Junior medical staff and ACCP’s providing cover for the unit. There is a strong multi-disciplinary ethos. The candidate will join a tier of 8 specialty doctors / ACCPs providing daytime and 1:8 on call cover for the critical care unit.
Main duties of the job
Routine work to actively engage and participate in the delivery of a safe and effective Anaesthetic Service at the University Hospital of North Midlands (Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital).
Your role will include out of hours work on any of the rotas that you are deemed competent to provide cover for with a frequency of 1:8.
To actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement activities in the department.
To actively participate in teaching, training and supervision of anaesthetic trainees and medical students from Keele Medical School.

The RSUH has a new PFI building with over 1000 beds and many services are provided through community hospitals. Our specialised services include clinical and laboratory Haematology, autologous stem cell transplant unit, haemophilia centre, intensive care unit, cancer centre, major trauma centre, maternity unit, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal and dialysis services, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for providing and maintaining a safe, robust service and will have a wide knowledge in all aspects of anaesthesia. A flexible approach will be required to work for our Trust, due to multiple site working as UHNM covers Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, Stafford.

Grade / experience
Essential criteria
- MBBS
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- Completed at least 2 years as full time anaesthetist after the primary medical qualification or equivalent full-time critical care experience
- Ability to provide safe and effective immediate care for critically ill patients of all ages
Desirable criteria
- Primary FRCA or equivalent
- Current ALS certification
- APLS/ATLS or equivalent
GMC

- GMC Registration

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
