An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, innovative and motivated Children’s Registered Nurse to join Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at the Royal Stoke Hospital as a band 6 Children’s Haemoglobinopathy Clinical Nurse Specialist.
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual with specialist knowledge and experience. You will be fully supported to develop existing and new skills working within a framework of competence. You will support the named consultant paediatrician for haemoglobinopathy diseases to deliver a high quality service.
We are looking for a candidate that can demonstrate, specialist children’s knowledge and skills, who demonstrates strong clinical leadership and communication skills, is innovative and flexible and committed to evidence based care.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in the Child Health Directorate with clinicians to provide an effective service for children and young people with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.
The post holder will be required to exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy, making critical judgements and decisions to meet the expectations and demands of this role. The post holder will work effectively and efficiently with children, parents/carers, and a variety of multidisciplinary teams including those in primary, secondary and tertiary care settings to coordinate, plan, deliver and manage the healthcare needs of patients.
The post holder will develop and deliver innovative and evidence based practice through professional leadership; supporting the clinical team to develop the specialist area of care.

The Child Health Directorate is a multifaceted and dynamic unit, which comprises of a regional Children’s Critical Care Unit delivering L1 and L2 care, an acute Medical ward and a surgical inpatient ward with a co-located surgical day case unit and a co-located oncology day case unit, a children’s outpatient department at RSUH and the County site and two emergency portals of entrance, the Children’s Assessment Unit and the Children’s Emergency Department.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current Children's Nursing Registration: RSCN/RN-Child
- Degree Level Nursing/Health related studies
Desirable criteria
- Clinical Health Assessment Skills Qualification
- Mentorship or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 5 years post registration experience
- Ability to prioritise workload in response to service need
- Ability to work autonomously and be accountable for own actions
Desirable criteria
- Ability to develop medium and long-term plans to meet service need and ensure sustainability
Personal Qualities/skills
Essential criteria
- Effective communicator both written and oral
- IT skills, including keyboard and word processing skills
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team across all care and organisational settings.
