Main duties of the job

To work under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Sister and Senior Clinical Nurses to deliver safe and effective quality care. The post holder will provide effective family centred nursing care underpinned by evidence based practice. The post holder will assess, develop, implement and evaluate the nursing care needs of children and family/carers within the Children's High Dependency Unit.  The post holder may be required to rotate to other clinical areas as requested to meet the demands of the service and fulfil professional education needs and to also participate in the development of clinical audit, ensuring that a prominent nursing contribution is made. The post holder will present a positive, professional image of the organisation and of the nursing team.  The post holder will also be responsible for updating their own knowledge and skills in line with the NMC Code and Trust policies and procedures.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • UK NMC registered Children's Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • Critical Care Course Levels 1 & 2 (HDU)

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Has experience as a student or registered nurse in an acute hospital setting
  • Intermediate IT skills
  • Understanding of evidence based practice
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within Children’s High dependency

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Able to use own initiative
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills
