We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and highly skilled HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist to join our Stone Rehabilitation Team on a 12-month fixed term basis to cover maternity leave.

You will work autonomously but as part of the multidisciplinary team made up of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation Technicians and Administrators that provide a community rehabilitation service to housebound adults in the Stone and Eccleshall area who display a range of physical conditions.

Referrals to the service may include progressive neurological conditions, medical, orthopaedic, falls, cancers, multi-pathology and dementia. The service aims to maintain people at home, prevent hospital admission and promote condition self-management.

Our team is dedicated in delivering excellent customer service and aims to improve function, independence and promote self-management through therapy programmes and/or equipment provision.

Due to the nature of the role it is essential for this post that you have suitable ability to travel independently across a large geographical area within Stone and Eccleshall.

As a Senior Occupational Therapist in our service, you will undertake comprehensive assessments using verbal and non-verbal communication, highly skilled physical assessment techniques. Using reasoning agreeing therapeutic goals and treatment programme with the patient/carer. This could be in patients’ home, rehab centre or in care homes.

As part of this role you will be expected to:

  • Be clinically responsible for patients accepted onto the caseload and to organise this with regard to clinical priorities, evidence-based practise, ensuring the most efficient use of skills, time and resources. To work autonomously without direct supervision.
  • Delegate, supervise and modify treatment programmes to rehabilitation technicians’ contribution to the patient’s goals and outcomes.
  •  Work with team members in an integrated manner and promote and develop closer working with the integrated local neighbourhood team in Stone.
  •  Have a working knowledge of a variety of occupational therapy rehabilitation techniques, including both adaptive and restorative.

  • Professional registration with HCPC.

  • Further clinical study relevant to clinical practice such as management of long-term conditions.

EXPERIENCE

  • General experience across a wide range of care groups including neurology, orthopaedics, musculoskeletal and elderly care
  • Minimum 2 years post qualification experience in the NHS.
  • Experience of working on own initiative.
  • Understanding of community-based working and systems.
  • Working in multidisciplinary team.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Able to present information in an understandable way for people with communication difficulties.
  • Ability to present information for patients with a range of ability to understand and act on instruction
  • Ability to present information accurately, concisely & professionally.
  • Good IT skills and proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and the internet.
  • Capable of cost and time efficient travel across a dispersed service area.
  • Able to carry equipment and patients in own car
  • Behaves in an open, ethical and professional manner.
