Community Dietitian

NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

Are you looking for an opportunity to work with a passionate and committed team of Community Dietitians?   We are looking for a permanent 1 WTE (37.5 hrs per week) band 5 or band 6 Dietitian to come and join our friendly community team supporting the provision of a dietetic service to West Suffolk.

The post is available as a developmental opportunity for a band 5 dietitian who may not have all the desirable skills or have experience of working in a community setting. It is also suitable for new graduates with experience of the community as a student. We offer the successful candidate the opportunity to build on existing clinical practice. You can apply whilst completing your final year of Dietetic study.

We are an innovative dietetic department working across both acute and community settings, covering a wide range of specialist areas.  The Dietitian will be based in our Community Office in Moreton Hall on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to see patients in a variety of community settings, conduct telephone appointments and carry out domiciliary visits in the surrounding areas of West Suffolk to give nutritional management advice.  They will also work as part of the Home Enteral Feeding (HEF) team consisting of a Lead HEF Dietitian, B6 Dietitian, a B7 Nutrition Nurse and Dietetic Support Workers to support patients requiring home enteral feeding. They will take on responsibility for a small caseload of HEF patients.

They will also take on a general dietetic caseload including community clinics and home visit patients to support community dietetic service. This will include a range of patients - predominantly nutrition support patients and gastro patients (Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Coeliac Disease etc).  Experience of working in Enteral Feeding is advantageous, but training is available, and the successful candidate will be fully supported by the lead HEF Dietitian and Community Lead Dietitian.
