Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a band 5 Staff Nurse to join our specialist gynaecology and early pregnancy department, which offers a range of both inpatient and outpatient services. The successful applicant will mainly be covering services for the ward inpatients, but there will be involvement with outpatients who attend the ward.

 

You will be joining a friendly team that provides a variety of women’s health services including; early pregnancy services, abortion clinics, gynaecology assessment and inpatient gynaecology elective and emergency cases.

 

The successful applicant will need to be self-motivated, friendly, a good team player and be able to provide empathetic care to our patients, especially to those who are undergoing early pregnancy complications and miscarriage.

 

It would desirable if you had experience in women’s health but this is not essential, as we will be able to train you within the role, building your knowledge and skills to provide patient focused care.

 

A background of surgical nursing would be beneficial.

 

Please note that this vacancy is for 12 hours per week only. 

Main duties of the job

This role involves;

 

·       Developing specialist knowledge and skills in gynaecology and early pregnancy, which will allow you to competently deliver care to this group of patients.

 

·       Within this role you will be expected to deliver care by, undertaking assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

 

·       You would be expected to work on a rotation of both days and nights.

 

·       You could be required to work in patient undergoing an abortion.  Therefore, it is essential you do not have a conscientious objection to abortion of pregnancy.

 

·       You would be expected to assist in gynae assessment unit and skills will be developed in this role, working you up to taking the role of gynae assessment unit nurse in charge, on occasions.

 

·       Actively follow guidelines and protocols in supporting women who attend our service to ensure we meet the best possible outcomes

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • NMC Registration.
  • • BLS/ILS
  • • Teaching and Assessing Certificate or equivalent.
  • • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Teaching experience.
  • • Previous acute experience within the NHS.
  • • Ability to work to clear protocols/guidelines within role boundaries.
Desirable criteria
  • • Previous mentorship experience.
  • • Previous experience in gynaecology.
  • • Previous surgical experience.
  • • Previous acute experience within the NHS of at least 1 year.
  • • Venepuncture and cannulation.

Skills and abilities

  • • Good IT skills.
