Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Nursing Associate to join our Outpatients team. We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join a team of dedicated and enthusiastic staff members who strive to deliver care of the highest quality. 

The Outpatients department can offer opportunities to learn and develop skills in a wide range of different specialities. The successful candidate will need to have good communication and excellent organisational skills with a flexible approach to working. 

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a drive to promote a high standard of care for our patients. STAFF CAR PARKING

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 – 18:30. This role is eligible to park on site.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the Nursing Associate include:

  • Support Consultants and patients in the Outpatient’s clinic.
  • To be responsible for setting up and the general running of all clinics, including-
    •    Plastic dressings clinics
    •    Support in the ultrasound room in the breast clinic
    •    Pain Clinic
    •    Specialist ENT clinics
  • To support new staff and any learners in the department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Nursing Associates are responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of individual programmes of care. 

They are expected to give help and support to the Nursing Assistants and to act as a role model using their own initiative and to work independently within the bounds of their existing knowledge and skill. 

They need to use effective verbal and written communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team within own department and the wider clinical area and to engage in effective communication with patients, relatives and visitors. 

They are responsible for delivering high standards of patient care based on evidence-based practice and have a professional duty to update and develop their professional practice.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Nursing Associate Foundation Degree and registered with the NMC

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
  • Evidence of continuous Professional Development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an outpatient environment.
  • Experience using hospital IT Systems e.g. E-Care and evolve.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate with a range of different people, including service users, carers and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Able to work with a degree of autonomy, to manage, prioritise and organise own workload.
  • Supports patient and staff equality and diversity.
  • Understanding of Risk Management and Health and Safety issues, including Moving and handling
  • Flexible and adaptable to the needs of the service.
  • Ability to travel to other satellite sites.
  • Understands the importance of patient confidentiality and Data Protection.
  • Ability to show empathy and compassion to patients and their relatives
