Clinical Nurse Specialist, Haematology

Job overview

  • Provide clinical support and expert care  to patients with a haematological malignancy at ASPH throughout their cancer journey.
  • Be the key worker for patients, families and carers with a haematological malignancy
  • Support the faster diagnosis and improve outcomes for patients with haematological malignancies
  • Positively impact on the experience of patients and carers by providing high standards of clinical practice and care as appropriate across the trust

Main duties of the job

  • Support the delivery of a haematological diagnosis 
  • Deliver HNA/care plan clinics for all patients within 6 weeks of a confirmed malignant diagnosis
  • Assess patients pre chemotherapy and deliver pre-chemotherapy information
  • Support patients and carers though-out their cancer journey, provide support and advice to patients calling in though the single point of contact number.
  • Be prepared to implement and support PSFU for lymphoma

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To make an effective contribution to reaching the Trust’s vision, strategic objectives and key work performance.
  • To streamline cancer care planning for haematology patients
  • To develop practice as outlined within National and local Cancer standards and quality measures
  • To work collaboratively with the Specialist Clinicians at ASPH and the Cancer Alliance to contribute to future strategic planning and development of Haematology services.
  • To provide clinical evidence to support improved cancer performance, KPI’s and targets 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • First level degree in related subject or equivalent knowledge, skills and competency gained through clinical experience working at a senior level
  • • Chemotherapy certification
  • • Post-basic qualification in cancer or a relevant subject in haematology
Desirable criteria
  • • Advanced communications skills training or prepared to work towards
  • • Physical assessment course
  • • Psychological level 2 training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Relevant post registration experience at Band 6 or above in Heamatology
  • • Leadership and management experience
  • • Evidence of advanced communications skills
Desirable criteria
  • • Previous CNS experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Evidence of advanced clinical management and nursing knowledge / skills
  • • Ability to hold a clear strategic vision and develop implementation plans to contribute to the development of the service.
  • • Ability to work autonomously and as part of the team.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Advanced knowledge of Haematology treatment and management
  • • Knowledge of cancer performance and standards
Desirable criteria
  • • Awareness of Personalised Care initiative and PSFU
  • • Involvement in quality surveillance programmes/audits/National Cancer Patient Experience survey
