The postholder will:

Support the Mechanical Supervisor  in the safe operation and maintenance of all plant, equipment and installations within the Trust estate,;

Establishing efficient and effective teams with high performance standards

The role is a combination of management of maintenance and hands on maintenance.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

  • To supervise Technicians, Craftsmen and Maintenance Support Staff, to ensure an effective and efficient workforce is provided delivering maintenance activities, this will be achieved via the trusts CAFM system (MICAD
  • To assist and support the Estates Mechanical Manager in ensuring the Property Maintenance Department operates within all Health and Safety guidelines, and that all Statutory and Mandatory obligations for the Trust
  • To undertake the duties of Competent Persons/Authorised person or SME one or more specialists systems i.e. Mechanical systems/Pressure systems/lifts, ventilation system or water systems  
  • To act up as Mechanical Manager when required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • .C&G, NVQ or similar in a mechanical discipline
Desirable criteria
  • • CPD in line management • HNC/HND in an engineering discipline • Competent or Authorised/Responsible Person in a specialist discipline • Time served apprenticeship

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Have previous experience of line management • Experience managing complex technical issues within a sensitive environment • To have experience in managing meetings, toll box talks or similar • To have experience in dealing with contractors • Able to demonstrate the ability to set direction, inspire, coach, manage, motivate and develop a high performing team.
Desirable criteria
  • • To have experience in working within healthcare premises • To have experience of working on CAD systems • To have experience of MICAD

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • To have sound knowledge of mechanical systems. • In depth knowledge of the HaSaWA and other relevant acts, standards and guidance notes • To have an understanding of permit to work systems
Desirable criteria
  • • To have a sound knowledge in HTM, and HBNs • To have a basic understanding of asset management (PPM and reactive tasks, SFG 20)

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • To have a full understanding of the importance for Method Statements and Risk Assessments • To have an understanding of Architectural and Engineering technical drawings; • To have the ability to provide technical advice and knowledge to a predominantly a mechanical workforce and support the wider multi-skilled workforce. • To have the ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications • : • You have knowledge & awareness of diversity and human rights as appropriate to your role • You are able to communicate effectively to ensure high standards of care, treatment, service or support as appropriate to your role, • Able to provide a customer focussed service • Strong team and personal organisational and time management skills to manage competing priorities and deadlines, to act from individuals to large groups • To be able to work effectively in a fast paced environment ensuring all paperwork, drawings and reports are correct.
Desirable criteria
  • • To be qualified and certificated in IOSH Management; • Ability to analyses complex problems and to develop and workable solutions to address them. • A strong, inspiring, engaging and collaborative leader. Able to demonstrate a variety of leadership styles • Be able to undertake light physical efforts, able to work at height and confined spaces
