Job overview

Our Cardiology department provides the ideal opportunity for talented nurses with a commitment to delivering a high standard of patient care. We are seeking experienced Lead Nurse for Cardiology Catheter Laboratory with a strong clinical and Managerial background who are enthusiastic to join our Cardiology unit.

 

You need to demonstrate an excellent range of clinical nursing skills and be committed to delivering quality care to all our patients. The appointed nurse will be involved in the care and management of both inpatient and out patients

 

The successful applicant will be someone who can offer strong organisational skills and will also have a gift for inspiring multi-disciplinary teams to challenge traditional models of care to continually improve clinical quality and patient satisfaction. The ability to develop effective relationships is paramount. 

 

The elective service runs Monday to Friday and focuses on interventional and electro-physiology procedures. The nurse will also be asked to undertake the co-ordinator role to facilitate effective patient flow through the catheter lab.

 

  You would be responsible on a 24 hour basis for the operational management and service delivery processes within the ward. This includes line management of all nursing staff.

Main duties of the job

1. Clinical Responsibility

- Lead and supervise the delivery of safe, high-standard nursing practice within the Cardiology Cath Lab, ensuring adherence to professional codes of conduct, hospital policies, and evidence-based guidelines.

- Demonstrate clinical expertise and comprehensive knowledge of nursing interventions required for cardiology procedures, ensuring the availability of specialized equipment.

- Support the on-call service.

2. Patient Responsibility

- Maintain and protect the safety, confidentiality, and dignity of patients in the recovery area.

- Ensure observations are recorded and acted upon when necessary.

- Experience with post-procedure care, complications, and management.

3. Communication

- Ensure clear communication among multi-disciplinary professionals.

- Foster close working relationships with wards/CCU at ASPH to facilitate cath labs.

4. Leadership

- Undertake a leadership/coordinator role within the labs to ensure efficiency.

- Assist the Lead Nurse by mentoring and training staff within the department.

- Allocate a nursing team within the catheter lab to support training and appraisals.

5. Health Safety and Security

- Completion of risk assessments.

- Ensure safe practice within the area.

6. Education and Training

- Collaborate with the CPE team to support training in the catheter labs.

- Take an active role in supporting junior staff completing their competency workbooks.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will:

•Manage the Cardiology Cath Lab nursing staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical care and positive patient experience

• Deliver a high standard of nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac procedures.

• Support the ‘on call’ nursing rota for the emergency, out of hours, interventional service.

• Undertake the co-ordinator role to facilitate flow in the catheter labs. 

• Support all patients and staff within the Cardiology service
