Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join the high-performing Colorectal Surgery team at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust.   

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will complete their higher degree, achieve publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at national meetings.

Main duties of the job

This post is a clinical research fellowship (ST grade), researching aspects of colorectal diseases.

It is suitable for registrar level in general surgery with interest in colorectal surgery.

The postholder will:

  • Undertake a higher degree in the field of Colorectal surgery
  • Be the surgical registrar on-call rota, currently 1:4 weekend nights
  • Reviewing patients in follow-up clinics
  • Attend the Colorectal Grandround research meeting (monthly)
  • Undertake quality improvement projects (as and when needed)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be undertaking a higher degree in the field of colorectal surgery at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH), St Mark’s Hospital, an internationally renowned specialist centre in bowel disease.

There will be a variety of different research topics in the field of colorectal surgery available. The successful candidate will finalise their research topic after discussion with the supervisor. 

There will be an opportunity to conduct audit projects at Ashford and St Peter’s outside of the scope of the formal higher degree. There will also be the opportunity to develop specialist skills in a chosen subspecialty area including pelvic floor, anorectal physiology, colonoscopy
