Job overview
An exciting career opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Lead Nurse for Endoscopy to join the Diagnostics, Therapies, and Cancers Services division to lead and positively impact on the experience of patients and their families by ensuring high standards of clinical practice and care in our Endoscopy department.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated nurse with significant experience working in an endoscopy department who is committed to change management and service improvement. You will possess be a confident leader, have excellent communication and motivational skills, and work effectively within our multi-disciplinary endoscopy team.
This dynamic and exciting role works as a senior member of the divisional management team, proactively developing endoscopy services to meet the changing needs of our patients. The post holder will provide strong clinical leadership and be professionally accountable for the standards and co-ordination of patient care within the Endoscopy Department, ensuring that standards are continuously developed and maintained.
They will carry overall responsibility for the organisation and management of the Endoscopy Unit, coordinating the provision of Endoscopy services to external departments including being responsible for completion of the Global Rating Scale (GRS) census and providing evidence required to sustain our JAG accreditation and revalidation.
Main duties of the job
The post is an ideal opportunity for an experienced endoscopy nurse to build upon and advance their leadership and managerial skills whilst being supported by the Divisional Professional Clinical Lead, the Associate Director of Operations and the Divisional Director.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • NMC registration
- • JAG/JETS accredited Non-Medical Endoscopist (Full Certification)
- • Masters qualification (or willingness to undertake)
- • Evidence of ongoing professional development • Specialist gastrointestinal Endoscopy training and/or experience
Desirable criteria
- • Management /Leadership course • NURB Course or equivalent
- • Health Education England - Clinical Endoscopist accelerated training programme
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Experience in a relevant role at band 7 or above
- • Able to manage a team including developing potential and performance management
- • Extensive experience in all endoscopic procedures
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of working in an autonomous manner and holding responsibility for making expert decisions.
- • Service development and clinical audit experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Must be able to demonstrate that you have knowledge of your professional code of conduct and guidance issued by your professional body and that you adhere to these.
- • In depth knowledge of all Endoscopy procedures • Sound knowledge of all aspects of endoscopy and service delivery
- • Knowledge of GRS and JAG • Knowledge and understanding of the national cancer strategy and screening programmes
- • Knowledge of clinical governance issues i.e. handling complaints, conflict resolution and clinical risk management
Desirable criteria
- • Good understanding of issues relating to evaluation of Nurse Led care planning and assessment and self-discharge
Skills
Essential criteria
- • You have knowledge & awareness of diversity and human rights and the competencies appropriate to your role to support their diverse needs and human rights.
- • You are able to communicate effectively with them and with other staff to ensure that their care, treatment and support are not compromised.
- • Able to provide a customer focussed service
